At approximately 16:16 BST on 8th April 2008 our Linux Network was subjected to a sizable DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack which flooded our network leaving little capacity available for legitimate in/outbound packets to utilise. This resulted in the limited service to our web server - although all servers remained online and fully operational.
The effects of this attack should only have been felt for a few minutes, as we implemented filtering at our peers to return service back to normal - our network was showing normal levels of activity by 16:27 BST at which time everything appeared to be back to normal.
Unfortunately due to the nature of these attacks they are difficult to prevent altogether, but rest assured that we continue to monitor our network with extreme vigilance to mitigate against the impact of such incidents.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience today’s small outage may have caused.
